the year in review -and- the year ahead
2006 was a pretty good year. Here are some of the highlights…
January: Had a really mellow New Year’s eve watching movies, playing Monopoly, and drinking sparkling grape juice with Cassy, Arthur, Erika, and Thomas. Went midnight bowling for Cassy’s birthday.
February: Traveled to Birmingham, AL to visit my dad for his birthday with Rachel, Luke, and Thomas. Thomas asked my dad for my hand on this trip. Had a lovely Valentine’s dinner at the Irregardless Cafe, then went to see Stomp.
March: Winter Retreat with the youth group, and a young adult’s conference at Matt Lamy’s church. Also the month that Rachel and Luke got separated, so a mix of good and bad.
April: Our 1.5 year anniversary and my 25th birthday were both in this month. I had a huge cookout to celebrate my first quarter century and everyone thought Thomas was going to propose (not knowing I had asked him not to with so many people around).
May: Pirate/Graduation party at Cassy’s and a family reunion. That’s pretty much it.
June: Two weekends at the beach in a row…the first was a visit with my grandparents and the second was our Bible study retreat in Wilmington. Both weekends were awesome. I finally made it to the butterfly house in Durham with Sarah and her cousin, Susie. At the end of the month we had “Free Stuff in Raleigh” day where we ran all over the city and did as many things as we could without spending in money. The only thing we had to pay for all day was a $3 movie ticket at the art museum.
July: A trip to Charlotte, a day at Jordan Lake, and Amy and Sarah’s Pride and Prejudice tea. Fun stuff!
August: Family vacation at the beach followed by a proposal. One of my favorite months this year because it was the month I got engaged.
September: Joined the YMCA and started working out on a regular basis in preparation for looking hot on my wedding day. Had the best weekend ever camping at Matt’s uncle’s house in Virginia.
October: Our 2-year anniversary. We started our premarital counseling and had a super-fun day at Target shooting everything we wanted with the scanner gun. Thomas and his “housie”, John, had a birthday party at their house and I made the famous coconut cake.
November: Went to the beach two weekends in a row to do music for my Uncle Mike’s 2nd-5th grade kid’s retreats. I picked out and ordered my bridesmaids’ dresses and found my princess dress (otherwise known as my wedding gown). Spent Thanksgiving in Charlotte at my Uncle Mike’s house where he made the most wonderful smoked turkey.
December: The month of Christmas parties…mine on the 8th, with the youth leaders on the 9th, youth group on the 15th, and Bible study on the 16th. Made a visit to the State Farmer’s Market to pick out the perfect apples for my homemade apple butter which I successfully canned for the first time ever. Spent time in Charlotte with my family and in Maryland with Thomas’ family. Came back home and watched LotR for our New Year’s celebration.
2007: This year is going to be full of huge changes. I’m getting married on March 31st (just 88 days from today) so there will be plenty of planning and showers going on in the next few months. Thomas and I have started apartment hunting and will hopefully have a place reserved soon. Right now I can’t think far past the wedding, but I’m looking forward to everything the year holds.
I had the most wonderful year with you, and I cannot wait to see what adventures 2007 holds!
I love you, Allea.
