What a night I’ve had!

Apex Evacuated

Toxic cloud from plant forces thousands to evacuate

So we got a phone call at 2AM from a lady mom works with that Apex was being evacuated. We’re on the very edge of the evacuation area, so we decided to stay put unless someone came and told us we have to leave. So here I am, shut up in my house waiting to see if I have to go somewhere. Right now the HazMat team is at the sight checking things out. Some preliminary air tests (that they just reported on the news) says that they couldn’t find anything too disturbing floating around in the air at the explosion site, and the rain that’s falling seems to be helping clean up the air a bit. The most crazy thing to me right now is we were at the church for Bible study last night (just a few doors down from the plant) and didn’t leave until just a few minutes before all this started. All the roads I normally take to lessons on Fridays are closed and downtown Apex (webcam) is absolutely dead, so I’m staying put. But hey…when else is little old Apex going to make the front page of CNN?

I think my wireless card somehow picks up a Spanish language radio station from time to time.  It’s kind of creepy when you’re in the room alone and the volume’s turned all the way down on your computer, but you start hearing talking .  Tonight it was loud enough I could tell it was Spanish.  But who’s ever heard of this happening??  Seriously.

Happy Independence Day, everyone!

…and what do you think of my new theme?

I swear I just saw Gandalf walking down Hwy. 64.

I was on my way back from a lesson (non-lesson actually…they “forgot” and weren’t there) and there he was walking along the side of the road…an old man with a long, white beard wearing a wide-brimmed hat and a long, blue-gray robe, holding a tall wooden walking stick. I would have loved to stop and take a picture as proof, but I didn’t have my camera (and it’s probably wouldn’t be incredibly wise to attempt to interact with such a person all by myself). But still. What a sight!
